Inspiration Comes Through Podcasts!

I love podcasts! I listen to them when I exercise and when I drive. They are a source of entertainment, education and inspiration.

Making the change from a career teacher into a new field is daunting. I know that when I started the process, I felt very alone. I worried that I wasn’t qualified for a real career after teaching and that flipping burgers might need to be my next step (which was doubly scary since I’ve been known to flip too late and burn them!)

When I joined LinkedIn and started connecting to some amazing professional resources, I found I that there were others making the same type of transition. I found I wasn’t alone after all. (I mention just a few of these people in a previous blog post; check it out!)

In just the past few months, I have found quite a few podcasts created for transitioning teachers by those who have successfully made the change! Now, you might ask, aren’t the messages the same? Well, yes and no.

Yes, each podcaster gives very helpful insights and tips for a variety of transition supports. These include revamping teacher resumes, creating meaningful connections, utilizing LinkedIn, building skills, and more. Each time I listen, I hear something new or I discover I’m ready for a tip that was beyond me a few weeks ago.

The message varies, however, in the podcaster’s focus for the episode. Some episodes focus on teacher burnout while others focus on building skills for the corporate world. Another big difference are in the guest speakers. These podcasters seek out others who have moved from teaching into a new career, and those guests share their stories. I’m able to make connections to most of them in some way, and usually walk away with a new strategy or idea. I always walk away with the knowledge that I am definitely not alone and that when I reach out to these people, I will find the support or advice I need.

So, let me share my favorite teacher transition podcasts. I have found all of them through iTunes, but they are available through almost any place podcasts are available. I present these in no particular order, except as to how they appear on my playlist this week (so I guess, that in itself is an order.) **Note: I do not have any direct affiliation with these podcasts, nor am I endorsing any of the products or services that the creators might offer. I simply have enjoyed their podcasts and subscribe to each so I can hear more!
